Admission characteristics of patients with diffuse interstitial lung disease in a pulmonary rehabilitation program
Características de ingreso de pacientes con enfermedad pulmonar intersticial difusa en un programa de rehabilitación pulmonar
Main Article Content
Objective: To know the characteristics of admission, diagnosis and treatment of patients with Diffuse Interstitial Lung Disease (DILD) who attend a Pulmonary Rehabilitation program in Cali. Method: It is a descriptive cross-sectional study, patients were included consecutively. Using a structured survey, information on sociodemographic, clinical and dyspnea characteristics was collected. Results: The average age was 58.2 years, 61.5% were men and 69.9% resided in Cali. 73.9% had never smoked. 15.4% had exposure to wood smoke. 23.1% had occupational exposure. 53.8% of patients had exacerbations in the last year. 69.9% require home oxygen. The MRC grade of dyspnea shows that 30.8% of the patients had grade 3 and 4 each; The distance covered in the six-minute walk test shows an average of 309.7 meters. The mean FVC is 58.6%, for FEV1 it is 63.5% and for FEV1/FVC it is 104.1%. Chest radiography confirmed interstitial changes in all 13 patients. Short-acting β2 agonists 46.2% are the most used drugs. Conclusions: The diagnosis of ILD is made through suggestive changes on chest radiology in 90% of cases. Pulmonary rehabilitation is a treatment alternative for symptomatic patients; Family history, prolonged treatment with some medications and autoimmune diseases may allow the disease to be properly classified in future studies.
