Abstract

Introduction: Disability represents a series of elements conceived from a political, social, health, economic, and others. This article describes the results of a review. The objective was to know the current scientific evidence that exists around the concept of disability through a deeply review of the literature and some contributions with respect to the Colombia current situation. Method: Narrative review of the scientific literature consulting the Medline databases via PubMed, LILACS, The Cochrane Library, Google Scholar and Scielo. The documents not exceeding ten years, written in English and Spanish and having a complete download with free access were included. In the databases that allowed it, the descriptors search equation (DeSC and MeSH) and limits were used: Human. Results: The thematic findings were organized into main thematic axes that include the concept of disability from the different models that have emerged over time and the contextualization for the Colombian territory. Conclusion: The review of the literature made in this article, allows to understand the concept of disability over time its modifications and adaptations to different emerging models.
