Review about the effectiveness of mirror therapy in the process of upper limb rehabilitation in patients with stroke
Revisión sobre la efectividad de la terapia en espejo en el proceso de rehabilitación de miembros superiores en pacientes con accidente cerebrovascular
Main Article Content
Introduction: The affection in upper extremities after a cerebrovascular accident is considered the most frequent and this leaves sequels in the short, medium and long term that intervene in the development of basic daily activities or of the daily life in the user as bathing, dressing, combing, among others. mirror therapy aims to help make this rehabilitation easier by creating a visual illusion of the affected limb as if it were healthy. Objective: to verify through bibliography review the effectiveness of mirror therapy in the process of upper limb rehabilitation in patients with stroke. Method: a literature review of 50 articles related to mirror therapy and the upper limb rehabilitation process was carried out, taking into account publications in English and Spanish in Pubmed, Elsevier, Science Direct, Dialnet, Medline databases in the last 10 years. Results: Studies showed that mirror therapy is effective in the process of motor rehabilitation in upper limbs in patients with stroke as long as it is combined with complementary therapies and its rehabilitation period is extensive Conclusion: Mirror therapy is considered effective by the intervention of the mirror neurons in the learning process which, in the company of other media, helps the early recovery of the mobility of the patient with stroke, thus improving the development of their daily basic activities, contributing to an improvement in their quality of life. lifetime.
