Caracterización de las lesiones deportivas en alumnos de la Escuela Militar. Caracterización bajo OSICS-10
Main Article Content
Background: The military training and sports activities developed in the training process of the students of the National Army officers’ school, entail in itself a risk of musculoskeletal injuries, which would generate alterations in the health of the personnel, days of disability, hospitalization, and decreased physical performance. For this reason, this study aims to characterize the types of injuries presented in a sporting event, through a more precise classification system, seeking later, to create epidemiological surveillance tools as a mechanism to prevent such injuries. Objective: To characterize the sports injuries that were presented during the Intercompany Games at the Escuela Militar de Cadetes “General Jose Maria Cordova” (ESMIC), using the standardized classification system OSICS - 10. Methodology: An observational, descriptive study with an analytical component, in which a data collection of the injuries was carried out in the course of the annual competitions that are carried out between the students of the different companies of the ESMIC. All injuries were recorded from primary information sources, which were evaluated by the sports medicine service with subsequent tabulation, consolidation and analysis using the formats recommended by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and coded using the system of Classification OSICS-10. Results: 43 injuries were reported, resulting in an incidence of 11.9 injuries per 1000 athletes/day. 67% affected the lower extremities. The sprain (35%) was the predominant type of injury.78% of injuries were caused by contact with another player and during total time of the event was generated 323 days of disability Conclusion: Epidemiological description, classification and coding of injuries during a military sporting event, generated useful records for the description of the risk scenarios, allowing us to implement a system of surveillance of preventable sports injuries.
