Occupational health and safety (OSH) is an approach to the prevention of occupational risks that requires the contribution of different disciplines, including economic and management sciences. Therefore, a variety of occupational health and safety management systems (OHSMS) have emerged that the International Labor Organization (ILO) sought to unify through the Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems Guidelines. The study sought to identify the elements of the guidelines present in the different published SGSSTs. To this end, an exploratory systematic review was carried out in the databases WilsonWeb, Lilacs, PAHO, Science Direct) and a Comprehensive Prevention technical information portal. 271 articles were found, of which 39 were included. It was concluded that the elements raised in the ILO guidelines can be integrated into other management systems and guarantee the active participation of actors at the managerial, tactical and operational levels of any organization, which implies structural and cultural changes for it. ; Therefore, what is sought is for the health and safety expert to know and take ownership of this tool, understanding it as a facilitator for achieving their objectives based on the potential of the organization.
