Abstract

Objective: To generate a bibliometric study of scientific articles about the effects on upper limb functionality using the Nintendo Wii console, in people with functional deficiencies associated with CVD. Materials and methods: A bibliometric study was carried out with a comparative descriptive analysis of the publications per year, taking into account the indicators of article count, productivity index, impact factor and immediacy index, identifying them through the Journal Citation Report, Scimago and Scopus, using Science Direct, Proquest and Ovid, including the keywords, Nintendo Wii, Rehabilitation, upper limb, and stroke, between the years 2009 to 2013 (March), carrying out the analysis of the results in Statistical Product and Service Solutions® and Excel 2010®. Main results: A total of 21 articles referring to the topic were found, identifying Science Direct as the most appropriate database to carry out a search on the subject, obtaining the greatest publication of articles in 2011, showing that the most relevant journals in the study were Stroke, Cochrane database of Systematic Reviews and Current Opinion in Neurology. Conclusions: The virtual reality offered by current technology allows its use as an intervention tool for the functional deficiencies associated with CVD, offering a biopsychosocial approach. Likewise, it was identified that the journals Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Stroke and Current Opinion in Neurology, according to the Journal Citation Report (JCR), are the most suitable for publishing since they present the highest index of immediacy and
impact factor.
