Abstract

This review aims to identify the relationship between the use and weight of suitcases in relation to the presence of pain in children and young people based on the review of evidence. Data sources: The databases consulted were; Bireme, Medline, Pubmed and Sciencedirect. Review methods: the search for information was carried out between the months of May and June 2011. To locate the information, the descriptors backpack AND pain, backpack AND childrenpain and schoolbag AND pain were determined, the articles corresponded to the Spanish and English languages and the publication period from 2000 to 2010. Results: 22 articles were selected from 430 found in all databases. They focus on 3 aspects: 1) the presence and location of pain in the study participants. 2) association of pain with the use of suitcases 3) other risk factors associated with the presence of pain. Conclusion: Pain is not directly associated with the use of suitcases; there are other factors that predispose it. Additionally, Latin America needs to delve into these studies.
