Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to establish the level of motivation and adherence to the exercise of the users who attend for the first time the gymnasiums of the Santo Tomás University. Method: Quantitative study of prospective descriptive scope, involving 24 subjects (13 men, 11 women) to whom an adaptation macrocycle was applied. Sociodemographic data were collected, in addition to the levels of: physical condition, motivation and adherence to exercise. The collection of information was carried out in three moments: at the beginning of the macrocycle, at two weeks and at the end. The data analysis was performed under SPSS® software version 24 for Windows. Results: The average age of the participants was ± 22.9 years. The fitness level had 79.2% physically active people, 28.8% inactive and 0% trained participants. Regarding the level of motivation 100% of the participants in the initial phase were active of pleasant affection; in the intermediate phase 96% pleasant affection and 4% active unpleasant affection; in the final phase, 100% of the users were evaluated as assets of pleasant affection. Finally, the compliance of the users to the agreed sessions was 62%, with an average of executed sessions of ± 21,7 and a percentage of adherence of 62% that indicates the adequate permanence and not abandonment of the users to the training plan. Conclusions: The level of motivation of users is highly positive, however, non-adherence may be due to external factors that do not derive properly from the training plan, thus limiting the continuity and completion of the program.
