Abstract

Marketplace workers are exposed to working conditions that have a negative impact on their musculoskeletal health due to factors such as physical workload, sustained postures and the absence of active breaks. These conditions, added to sociodemographic variables, can influence the appearance of musculoskeletal disorders and affect their quality of life. The objective of this study was to characterize the sociodemographic aspects that affect the human body movement of workers in a market place predisposing to risk factors for their musculoskeletal health. A descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out, which included the application of a structured survey to a representative sample of 120 workers of different trades in a market place. The results show an overview of the sociodemographic and occupational characteristics that affect human body movement and that develop osteomuscular alterations on a large scale in the workers of the market place. Likewise, significant differences are identified in the movement patterns, in the perception of pain according to age, sex and type of activity performed. These findings highlight the need to implement physiotherapeutic interventions aimed at health promotion and risk prevention. It is concluded that it is essential to implement prevention strategies to improve working conditions. In addition, the need to strengthen access to medical services and promote occupational health and safety policies that include the intervention of physiotherapists to ensure a safer work environment is highlighted.
