Asociación entre las enfermedades crónicas y la funcionalidad de los colombianos durante el año 2022

Main Article Content

Abstract

The present study focuses on investigating the association of chronic diseases and the functionality of Colombians during the year 2022. The National Quality of Life Survey of the same year was used as the data source, collecting relevant information about the quality of life of the Colombian population. The main objective was to identify the association between the presence of chronic diseases and the ability to perform basic activities of daily living, such as auditory capacity, verbal communication, vision, mobility, manual dexterity, cognitive abilities, self-care activities, and social interaction. Statistical tests were applied using SPSS 26 to analyze a representative sample of 251,925 individuals. The results revealed that 14.8% of the population had a chronic disease. Despite a generally good functioning in areas of functional capacity, small percentages of difficulties were identified in some of them. Significant associations were found between the presence of chronic diseases and variables related to various functional capacities. In conclusion, this study highlights the importance of addressing chronic diseases by implementing preventive and early intervention measures, as well as ensuring accessibility and appropriate support to improve the quality of life of those affected. The need for designing suitable health policies and programs to promote integral well-being and a more inclusive society in the Colombian population is supported.
